Why sliding timber windows?

Sliding windows are supplied with a sliding sash, which runs on metal channels. The advantage of this design is that the sash is easily removable for cleaning or painting and the window has excellent ventilation characteristics. Further, where there is a confined outside space the sliding window provides fingertip ventilation control.
